A Life Lesson From Bees

When I look at my nephew’s beekeeping journey, I’m amazed at how much we can learn from these tiny creatures. Bees are small, fragile on their own, and yet when they come together in a hive, they accomplish the extraordinary. They pollinate flowers, sustain ecosystems, and produce honey that blesses so many.

The secret? They don’t try to do it alone.

Grief, healing, and new beginnings can feel a lot like the life of a bee outside the hive — vulnerable, exposed, and unsure of how to keep going. I know this feeling well. There were seasons I wanted to shut the blinds, stay in bed, and isolate from the world. But like bees, we aren’t meant to survive in isolation.

We need our “hive” — whether it’s family, friends, a church community, or a support group. Community doesn’t take away the sting of loss, but it gives us strength to carry on. When we lean on each other, we borrow hope until we find our own again.

The Bible reminds us of this truth in Galatians 6:2: “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Just as bees share the work of the hive, we are called to share the work of life together.

If you are walking through grief, I encourage you: find your hive. Join with others who can understand, encourage, and walk beside you. Healing happens faster, sweeter, and stronger in community.

Reflection Prompt: Who is in your “hive” right now? What’s one small step you could take this week to reach out or let someone else share the load with you?
